I got no treatment from the injury then, I just rested and iced and was out about 2 weeks with it.
Nothing precipitated the swelling this time, just a feeling of “not being right” and exercise.
The same thing happened a year ago (pain and swelling for a few days), then it was fine for the year.
Could this be gout in the ankle that was injured and weak … I rarely drink alcohol.

I was diagnosed with cellulitis a week ago. It is located on my right arm at the elbow. Symptoms appeared exactly 7 days ago (red skin, tight at elbow, super sensitive to touch, etc),. Went to Doc next day and he was unsure of whether it was cellulitis or gout, but leaned towards cellulitis. Perscribed bactrin and naproxen (in case its gout). Saw some immeditae benefits within a day…swelling decreased and tenderness went down. For the next few days the redness spread from my elbow toward my wrist with a clear line of demarcation betrween the red tender part and the normal skin. In the last two days the red pink color has gone down significantly, but the point of origin at my elbow is still a bit swollen and red. The skin at the elbow is very tight and a little warm (though not as much as last week). Is this normal/expected? When can I expect the swelling and tightness to go away? I have been on bactrin (2x per day) for 7 days. I have an appointment with my doc for 9 days from now.

I have had gout for over 20 years. It comes from an excess of uric acid. My body is a over producer and also doesnt get rid of it effeiciently. I have been on all the regular treatments…allopurinol…probenecid….etc..etc..but nothing seems to work. Honestly I would’nt wish this disease on my worst enemy. So, does anyone know of other treatments that may work. I have heard that dark cherries are good to eat for gout, but is there anything else out there? There is a new medicine, FEBUXOSTAT, but the FDA hasnt approved of it yet. Any other ideas?

It seems to me that everyday there is a new drug which comes out hailed as having great potential yet when you check around there seem to be few diseases which have been cured by any drugs. The headache is still around. High cholesterol still exists. People still have heart attacks. Cancer is as bad as ever. People still lose their hair as they get older. Gout and arthritis are still around. Epilepsy is still here. Alzheimers etc etc.

I’ll go even further than drugs. look into treatments in general. Teeth whitening doesn’t work that well. Skin creams haven’t helped the people I know. Smokers still have a hard time quitting. Fat people try everything to lose but they have yet to find a solution as far as I know.

And thousands of billions of dollars have been poured into solving all these problems. In the end the consumers would have been better off spending their money on something better.

Any thoughts on this reality?

For about 7 years i’ve had this problem and i’m gonna make it breif without details for your convenience. I have sex with someone, the next day my urethra burns, it spreads sometimes to my testicles and then to my kidneys and hurts. Everytime, at first i think, i have an std (Chlamydia, Ghonneria (spelling)), and go get tested and treated. I’ve been treated about 10 times and tested 4 times (the test isn’t fun so sometimes i just say treat me).The results always come back that i do not have any std’s but the treatment clears up the infection. I also get tested for UTI’s and they come back fine. I also always feel itchy around my testicles. but after the treatments i always feel fine. What is this? Any ideas? i’m tired of going to the doctor and saying “treat me for Chlamydia but I don’t have it”. Dyoxicyclin is what they precribe. i’ve also had gout problems come up at the same time and have heard of a syndrome called reiter’s syndrome. anyone think that could be the case?
